摘要

The depressant behavior and mechanism of guar and xanthan gums on calcite flotation were investigated through flotation experiment, adsorption study, zeta potential measurement and infrared spectroscopy measurement. The results show that when pH is 8.8 and oleate concentration is 0.3 mmol/L, xanthan gum with a dosage of 50 mg/L can markedly reduce the adsorption capacity of sodium oleate on calcite surfaces, and hence decrease the calcite recovery, while a higher dosage of 100 mg/L for guar gum should be added in order to achieve the similar depressant effect. The guar gum is adsorbed on calcite surface through hydrogen bonding, while xanthan interacts with calcite through chemisorption and hydrogen bonding.
