摘要

Point coordinate measuring instruments are applied in the geometric measurement of parts. In this instrument, ultrasonic waves are used for measuring distances using a method similar to the time-of-flight method. For improvement of the measurement resolution, an accurate value of the speed of sound is enhanced by using a phase-locked loop (PLL) circuit to generate a reference signal; this signal is dependent on the variation of the speed of sound. To measure the coordinate of a point, an ultrasonic signal is produced with a wireless transmitter on the surface of a part. The waves are received by a set of three ultrasonic receivers located at the corner of the room. By counting the pulses of that signal within a transmit-to-receive period, the distance between each pair of transducers can be determined. By increasing the coefficient of the frequency divider in the PLL, the output frequency increases and the resolution improves.
