A case report of acute lymphoblastic leukemia with t(9;22) translocation and several additional rearrangements

Analysis of acute lymphoblast leukemia (ALL) with several variants of t(9;22) is presented. Bone marrow, peripheral blood (the content of blast cells in blood was 33%) and PHA-stimulated peripheral blood were used for cytogenetic analysis. In this case the peripheral blood spontaneous mitosis after 28-h and 72-h incubation without mitogen were the most informative. Cells with the six variants karyotypes were found. One of them was normal, the second contained only one lesion - del(6)(q) and the four others were 2 variants with t(9;22) and several additional lesions, including i(9)(q), t(2;4), t(2;4; 11), t(4; 11). These clones completely correlate with the clones found in bone marrow. It is interesting that in mitotic cells without mitogen stimulation normal karyotypes were found. It is not clear, if these cells are really normal or they were malignant with small injuries, not detected with the use of chromosome G-banding.
