Diameter-dependent luminescence properties of ZnO wires by mapping

摘要

The diameter-dependent luminescence properties for individual ZnO wires were systematically investigated by means of a spatially resolved spectroscopic technique. The two-dimensional photoluminescence (PL) mapping image was presented to show the integrated optical emission properties at each position of the wire. A blue shift of the UV emission peak was directly observed as the diameter gradually decreased from 400 to 100 nm. The two-dimensional PL intensity map of the ultraviolet emitted energy at 3.26 eV for the ZnO wire was shown along the length and width of the wire. The observed results indicate that the PL integrated intensity distribution is not uniform along the wire. The mechanisms of the blue shift and the intensity distributions for the PL spectrum along the wire are proposed based on PL mapping, the Burstein-Moss effect and semiconductor theory.
