Modulating the single-molecule magnet behaviour in phenoxo-O bridged Dy2 systems via subtle structural variations

摘要

In search of simple approaches to rationally modulate the single-molecule magnet behaviour in polynuclear lanthanide compound, a new system containing two structurally closely related dinuclear dysprosium complexes, namely [Dy-2(hfac)(4)L-2] (1) and [Dy-2(hfac)(4)L'(2)] (2) (hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate, HL = 2-[4-methylaniline-imino]methyl]-8-hydroxyquinoline and HL' = 2-[(3,4-dimethylaniline)-imino]methyl]-8-hydroxyquinoline), are successfully synthesized and the structure-dependent magnetic properties are investigated. The two Dy2 compounds display only slight variations in the coordination geometries of the center Dy(III) ion but display remarkably different single-molecule magnet behaviors with the anisotropic barriers (Delta E/k(B)) of 9.91 K for 1 and 20.57 K for 2. The different magnetic relaxation behaviors of the two Dy2 complexes mainly originate from the different chemical environments of the central Dy-III ions.
