Application of weight fuzzy identification method in vehicle occupant classification algorithm

According to specific type of occupant inside the vehicle, the intelligent airbag can determine the deployment time and force when collisions occur. The main objective of this paper is the application of fuzzy identification method to calculate the weight of occupant and predict the type of occupant, such as 5th percentile adult female and 50th percentile adult male and 95th percentile adult male. Therefore, in this paper, occupants are recruited to sit in specified postures. During sitting, the pressures exerted on the seat surface are measured. After that, occupant weight calculation model is established to express the highly nonlinear relationship between the pressure exerted on the seat surface and the weight of different occupant. Finally, the system uses the weight information to determine the type of occupant. Since the good validity and accuracy of the weight calculated by the occupant weight calculation model are shown in the experiments, the proposed algorithm can effectively identify the type of the occupant.
