It is of challenge and emergent problems for potential hazardous assessment of the stratified rock roof of the shallow mined-out areas in current engineering practices. Based on the shallow mined-out areas in Antaibao Surface Mine China, the engineering mechanics model was generalized and built, the motion equation that demonstrated the bending deformation of the stratified rock roof had been derived, and the nonlinear responses characteristics of the motion equation had been analyzed. The research results showed that the stratified rock roof of shallow mined-out areas would produce stochastic resonance and chaotic phenomena during the bending deformation process under certain conditions. When stochastic resonance occurs, even a minor stochastic force would bring about larger bending deformation of the stratified rock roof. Due to the impact of periodic variation of circumstance condition, the stochastic chaotic phenomena would result in a sudden catastrophe of the stratified rock roof.
