摘要

A new type of primary ion source for secondary ion mass spectrometry(SIMS) was presented. Using this primary ion source, ions produced in atmospheric pressure can be accelerated, focused and directed toward the surface of a sample housed in vacuum. The operational principles, structure and performance of the ion optics that are the major components of the primary ion source, were systematically described. By using the lysozyme ions produced by electrospray ionization (ESI) as example primary ions, the atmospheric pressure ionization source described can be successfully integrated into the secondary ion mass spectrometry.
