摘要

Very old palaeoforms are widely distributed in Australia. Their nature (etch surfaces) and the criteria used to date the forms in six selected regions (Gawler Ranges, Arcoona Plateau, Flinders Ranges, Mt Lofty Ranges, Yilgarn Craton, Hamersley Ranges) are described and debated. All but the Eocene Hamersley Ranges date from the Cretaceous, or earlier, and all imply increased relief amplitude through time. Possible conservation factors are discussed; but such old landform elements still pose problems and ought to be openly discussed.
