摘要

An investigation of the indirect interaction between two adatoms on pure and contaminated Pt(111) and Ni(111) surfaces is presented in terms of tight binding model. The effects of an impurity on the indirect interaction energies are discussed. It is found that the indirect interaction energies between two adatoms have a damped oscillation behavior with their distance increase. The adsorbed layer structures are consistent with experimental results. The introduction of an impurity Cu atom affects the structures of adsorbed layer slightly, but can weaken or strengthen the indirect interaction energies between adatoms for different adsorbate-substrate systems. In addition, the systems of two different adatoms co-adsorbed on contaminated Ni(111) and Pt(111) surfaces are discussed. Thus, when Ni and Pt are taken as catalysts, the introduction of a Cu impurity atom will effect the process of chemical reaction.
