摘要

In cold rolling, a particular type of spalling has been associated for some time with the surface of the rolls. It is assumed that this type of damage is due to the hydrogen embrittlement of the surface of the hardened rolls. During the rolling process, atomic hydrogen can form as a result of galvanic or chemical reactions which then penetrates into the surface of the rolls.
With every suspicion of hydrogen induced roll fracture it is therefore necessary to determine the total hydrogen content of the metal in order to establish conclusively the exact cause of the failure. In the work presented here, the dependency of the results obtained from hydrogen analyses on the respective methods used to remove the specimens from the surface of such rolls are investigated in order to enable erroneous results to be obviated and to establish a guideline for such a procedure for the future.
