Diltiazem, belongs to the group of drugs known as benzothiazepines, which are a class of calcium channel blockers, used in the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, and some types of arrhythmia. In this study, a potentiometric liquid membrane sensor for simple and fast determination of diltiazem hydrochloride in pharmaceutical formulation and urine were constructed. According to the theoretical calculation, diltiazem-tetraphenylborate (DTM-TPB) complexes were employed as electroactive material in the membrane. The best electrode performance was accomplished with a membrane composition of 30% PVC, 65% DBP, 5% (DTM-TPB). The wide linear range (10(-5)-10(-1) M), low detection limit (3.2 mu g/ml), and fast response time (similar to 12 s) are characterizations of the proposed sensors.
