摘要

Major changes in Romanian economy due to privatisations of the public sector and globalisation occurred in the last decade, having an important impact on several environmental aspects, as previous studies pointed out. In order to analyse the current position and time evolution of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) environmental practices of the main companies operating in Romania in the international context we applied econometric data processing methods (linear regression, cluster analysis) and software (Excel, EViews, SAS) on data provided by several sources: Newsweek environmental ranking of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the world, the KPMG (one of the four largest international professional services networks) Survey of Corporate Responsibility Reporting (covering 4100 companies in 41 countries including Romania) and the Romanian National Institute of Statistics (INSSE) Database-Sustainable Development Indicators in Romania. The research shows that CSR reporting rates in Romania are below the European average, but superior to important economies like Germany, Poland or Russia and that the Environmental CSR practices entered Romanian economic culture by the international brands vector. The analysis shows that 45 out of the top 500 environmental CSR ranked companies operate now in Romania and the main result of the CSR environmental practices is the achievement of improved sustainable indicators for Romania during the last years.
