摘要
Two-dimensional magnetic recording (TDMR) is a brand new architecture for magnetic recording systems proposed to achieve densities towards 2-10Tb/in2. We are encouraging and amazing that it is no need to redesign of the head or medium for its application over the current hard disks. To consider the problem of employing the TDMR platform into the storage system, the paper proposes a hybrid storage system named TileStorage, a shingled writing storage system based on solid-state disks and the TMDR platform which can provide huge storage capacity without the loss of performance. TileStorage can effectively convert the random writes to sequential writes on the target TDMR platform by adopting shingle translation layer (STL) technology. We show some initial results using TileStorage which demonstrate the performance and provide the indication of future directions may be possible in shingled writing storage system with TDMR platforms.
