摘要

We report the results of two factorial laboratory experiments on multi-nutrient (nitrogen, phosphorus and micronutrients) growth limitation in Ulva rigida from the Sacca di Goro lagoon at the spring biomass peak. Nitrogen and micronutrients (trace metals and vitamins) always stimulated Ulva growth, both alone and in combination. In cultures lacking micronutrients, nitrogen effects were enhanced by the addition of phosphorus, that however had no effect when added alone or in combination with micronutrients. The response of Ulva to the different treatments underscores the importance of considering more than one nutrient when addressing limitation issues and demonstrates that nutrients other than nitrogen and phosphorus can limit macroalgal growth.
