We demonstrated a diode-pumped passively Q-switched mode-locked (QML) Nd:GdVO4 laser using a Cr4(+):YAG saturable absorber with a high repetition rate, which was formed with a simple flat-flat cavity. The repetition rate of the Q-switched envelope increased from 8.7 to 25 kHz as the pump power increased from 4.31 to 8 W. The mode-locked pulses inside the Q-switched pulse envelope had a repetition rate of similar to 1.43 GHz. A maximum average output power of 1.42 W was obtained. The dependence of the operational parameters on the pump power was also investigated experimentally.
