Measurement of %26apos;boar taint%26apos; with trace gas measurement technology via gas phase %26lt;br%26gt;As part of the EN-Z-EMA project measuring methods are developed for direct measurement of boar taint components from the gas phase without special preparation steps. Basis of the measurement method is a trace gas measurement chain consisting of thermal desorption (gas preconcentration), gas chromatography, and fast time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The samples are measured by dynamic headspace sampling. The sensitivity of the whole measurement system is in the picogram range. For the substrates (tainted fat samples), the detection limits are at present, in unoptimized state, approximately 30 ng/g for indole and skatole and 1300 ng/g for androstenone.
