摘要

the self-concept helps to regulate our own actions and the way we interact with others, therefore having a great impact on human behavior. according to harter (1999) it is important to also analyze self-perceptions in specific domains such as cognition, social or physical. the present study aims to analyze the relations between self-perceptions of 40 preschool age children and the way they are accepted by their pears in the group context. the pictorial scale of perceived competence and social acceptance (harter %26 pike, 1984, adapted to the portuguese population by mata, monteiro %26 peixoto, 2008) and sociometric interviews were used to collect the data. the results indicate that children with higher scores on their perceived acceptance by their pears are indeed the ones with higher sociometric acceptance scores given by their peers. their perception of the maternal acceptance is related to their perception of both cognitive competence and peers acceptance, as well as to their sociometric acceptance among peers. overall, social interactions seem to be an important context for the development of self-concept.
