摘要

The streptozocin-induced diabetic rat model reproduces a metabolic lesional mechanism (type I diabetes) and the usual symptoms of evoked pain. Even though the clinical relevance of the model is challenged due to the alteration of the general health condition of the animals and the lack of morphological changes in peripheral nerves, many studies have contributed to a better pathophysiological and pharmacological understanding of painful diabetic neuropathy, to the improvement of the use of pharmacological tools and to the emergence of new therapeutic concepts.
