A new ligand 4,5-diazafluorene-9-one quinaldinoylhydrazone (HL) has been designed and synthesized. Ni(II) complex [Ni(L)(2)(PY)(2)](H2O)(2) has been prepared by the reaction of HL, pyridine(Py) with the NiSO4 6H(2)O. The crystal belongs to triclinic system, P-1 space group. The crystallographic data are: a =10.531(2) Angstrom, b = 11.748(2) Angstrom, c = 10.342(2) Angstrom, alpha = 115.19(3)degrees, beta = 90.70(3)degrees, gamma = 86.46(3)degrees. The crystal structure data indicated that the Ni(II) ion was coordinated through two oxygen and two nitrogen atoms from two HL ligands and nitrogen atoms from two pyridine molecules. Ni(Il) ion is a six-coordination in the center of the octahedron. The crystal was stabilized by the intermolecular pi-pi stacking between the diazafluorene planes in adjacent molecules.
