摘要

Reverse engineering is an approach for constructing a CAD model from a physical part through dimensional measurement and a surface model. The first step in the reverse engineering process is collection of data lying on the surface. In this paper we introduce an algorithm that differs from the conventional algorithm. The main idea of our algorithm is to construct a NURBS surface based on letting measured points be control points and then modifying it by changing the control points or weights respectively, instead of fitting a NURBS surface based on letting measured points be data points, which is time-consuming. During the iterations, for each iteration, the conventional algorithm need fit for NURBS surfaces that must lead to time-consuming, on the other hand, the proposal algorithm just need modify the constructed NURBS surfaces by altering control points or weights respectively. Although, in order to gain more accurate results, the new algorithm needs more iterations in some cases, it will save time compared with the conventional algorithm.
