THE EXPANDING STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING PROFESSION NECESSITATES GREATER EMPHASIS UPON THE CAREER DEVELOPMENT OF NOVICE COACHES. THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES AN APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK OF THE MENTORING PROCESS IN A STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING CONTEXT. BECAUSE THE APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK IS TRADITIONALLY UNDERSTOOD IN TERMS OF ACQUIRING PHYSICAL SKILLS, WE MAKE NOTE OF HOW THIS PROCESS ALSO INCLUDES A COGNITIVE COMPONENT THAT IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT TO STRENGTH COACHES AND THEIR ABILITY TO ACHIEVE CAREER SUCCESS.
