摘要

To compute electric-field intensity around cable joints when the power cable is loaded on 110 kV constant voltage source, the finite element method (FEM) was used. In the presence of impurities in the cable joint, the impurities will cause the local electrical field distorted, and the electric-field intensity will sharply increase. The insulation materials are broken down when the local electrical field is distorted for the intensity exceeding the dielectric strength possibly. Cable joint with artificial impurities was tested under 110 kV constant voltage level. The test results verify the computing consequences in the FEM.
