摘要

A fully integrated low noise tri-band LC Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) with small VCO gain (K-VCO), which used in the frequency synthesizer supporting GPS, Galileo, and WCDMA standards, is presented in the TSMC 0.18 mu m CMOS process. For good phase noise performance, the cross-coupled complementary topology in combination with symmetrical noise filters is adopted while band selection is accomplished using switched capacitors method. To suppress K-VCO variation, a parallel varactor bank is also added to the LC-tank. The physical layout occupies 1000 mu m x 760 mu m including pads. With a 1.8 V supply voltage, post simulation results show that the frequency tuning range can perfectly compensate the deviation due to process corners. It draws a current of 6 mA, 9 mA, 11 mA from 1.8 V supply for WCDMA, GPS L1/Galileo E1, and GPS L5/Galileo E5 application, respectively. The phase noise is less than -130 dBc/Hz at 2.5 MHz offset from the carrier in the whole frequency tuning range.
