Mecodema kokoromatua sp.n. (Carabidae: Broscini) is described from specimens collected from a small stretch of coastal forest adjacent to the Ahipara escarpment, Northland. We include a revised key and phylogeny for the %26apos;curvidens group%26apos;, and raise the number of endemic broscine species in Northland to eight. The ventral bursal keel is a newly identified structure from the female reproductive tract, which is attached ventrally to the helminthoid sclerite. The ventral bursal keel is Y-shaped in the %26apos;curvidens group%26apos;.
