A review on the research of a dry cooling tower affected by cross wind

摘要

The methodology and important findings on dry cooling tower were summarized home and abroad. Cross wind can significantly alter the flow field around a dry cooling tower, resulting in asymmetrical wind intake, deflection of the plume flow and inverse cold flow at the outlet, which reduce the plant's efficiency and enhance the air pollution downstream. Much valuable research work have been done about the characteristics of the flow field around the tower, and also some ideas were proposed to reduce the negative influence of wind. However, so far no method has been verified as being ultimately effective in reducing the negative influence of cross wind, not to mention eliminating or even utilizing the wind effect. It is suggested that further study should focus more on the comprehensive flow field around dry cooling tower including the flow filed outside the tower shell and new design of tower structure to make use of the cross wind.
