摘要

This letter presents the trade-off between size reduction and electrical performance of miniaturized branch line couplers using distributed capacitors placed in the inner open area of the hybrid. Based on single. double, and triple 11-section approximations of the quarter wavelength transmission lines of a conventional design with high impedance lines and shunt metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors, size reduction as well as electrical performance are compared both in simulation and experimentally. The miniaturized triple-section hybrid achieves similar bandwidth performance as the conventional 3 (18 branch line hybrid coupler, but with a 61.2% smaller footprint.
