The aim of study is to analyze different solvents in the extraction of phenolic compounds of Holoschoeni rhizoma, after different extraction times and the antioxidant capacity of dries extracts. Scirpus holoschoenus L. was collected in October 2009, from Vadu Oii, Constanta district, Romania. The rhizome extracts were obtained with different solvents after different extraction. The solvents were vacuum -distilled at 40 degrees C in a rotary evaporator. Total polyphenol content was determined spectrophotometrically using Folin-Ciocalteus method. A HPLC system (Agilent 1100/1200) with quaternary pump, DAD, autosampler and 5 mu m Zorbax Eclipse XDB-C18 (250 x 4.6 mm, Agilent Tehnologies) column, was used for analysis phenolic compounds. Antioxidant capacity of the Lipid Soluble Cmpounds (ACL) was determined with PHOTOCHEM. The antioxidant capacity of the samples was quantified by comparation with the standard (constructing a calibration curve with TROLOX) and was given in equivalent units of standard. The all extracts contain high levels of total phenolic compounds. HPLC analysis of rhizome extracts showed that it contained polyphenolics compound. The extracts showed excellent antioxidant activities. The strong antioxidant activity may be attributed to its high level of phenolic compounds. The different extraction methods influence of phenolic contents.
