摘要

A novel cerium loaded zinc oxide was successfully synthesized by a precipitation-decomposition method and calcination at 400 degrees C for 12 h. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence (PL) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurements. The photocatalytic activity of Ce-ThO was investigated for the degradation of AR 27 under solar light. It is found to be more efficient than bare zinc oxide (ZnO), titanium dioxide P25 (TiO2-P25) and TiO2 (Merck) at pH 12 for the mineralization of AR 27. The effects of operational parameters have been analyzed, and the mineralization of AR 27 has been confirmed by chemical oxygem demand (COD) measurements. The catalyst is found to be reusable. A mechanism has been proposed for the degradation of AR 27 by Ce-ZnO under solar light illumination.
