A General Model for Autocatalytic Zymogen Activation Inhibited by Two Different and Mutually Exclusive Inhibitors

In this paper, a general mechanism of autocatalytic zymogen activation and the simultaneous action of two different, mutually exclusive, two-step inhibitors acting on both the enzyme (which simultaneously is both the activating and the activated enzyme) and the complex enzyme-zymogen is suggested and kinetically analyzed. This generalization offers the advantages of being applicable to a high number of real cases since most mechanisms of autocatalytic zymogen activation involving. reversible or irreversible, one or two step, equal or different inhibitors, with reversible steps in rapid equilibrium or not, are particular cases of the general model here studied. The number and type of the particular cases arising from the general model are obtained in a systematic way. Finally, as an example, the results obtained for the general model arc applied to one of the thousands of its particular cases.
