FOLIAR MACRONUTRIENT CONCENTRATION AT DIFFERENT PHENOLOGICAL STAGES OF LITCHI cv. BREWSTER

The dynamics of macronutrients in litchi cv. Brewster trees was evaluated through foliar sampling at different phenological stages, from the time of flower initiation until one month after harvest. The average tree height was 4.5m and they were were fertilized with 600g of N, 240g of P2O5 and 900g K2O (tree/year) which were applied through fertigation. Girdling was performed on all trees. The results indicate that through the phenological stages there is a significant variation in foliar concentration of phosphorus, potassium and magnesium, which were at their highest levels in the vegetative stage (P= 0.14%; K= 0.87% and Mg= 0.26%) while the lowest levels were recorded at the beginning of the flowering stage (P= 0.11%; K= 0.77% and Mg= 0.20%). We conclude that the critical time or the time of high nutritional demand of the crop is in the flowering stage. Phosphorus had two occasions of high demand, at the beginning of flowering and the beginning of fruit formation, while N and Ca had no significant variation between phenological stages. The average fruit production was 45kg per tree, an acceptable yield for trees of this size.
