摘要

Sludge conditioning and dewatering tests were conducted for a variety of sewage sludges that were anaerobically and aerobically digested. The data were compared to solution proteins, polysaccharides, and biopolymers (combined proteins and polysaccharides). It was found that for anaerobically digested sludges, the polymer conditioning requirements correlated well with the protein concentration. For aerobically digested sludges, the polymer conditioning requirements were best described by the combined protein and polysaccharides. The dewatering rate was found to correlate with the combined proteins and polysaccharides for both the anaerobically and aerobically digested sludges. The specific fraction of biopolymer that influenced both the polymer conditioning dose and dewatering rate was the size fraction between 1.5m and 30,000 Daltons, operationally defined as the colloidal fraction. The size fraction less than 30,000 Daltons was unimportant with regard to sludge dewatering properties.
