Bi20TiO32/TiO2 heterojunction were successfully synthesized via a one-step solvent thermal route using bismuth nitrate and tetrabutyl titanate as precursors. The as-prepared products were characterized by TEM, FE-SEM, XRD, XPS, UV-vis and PL methods. The catalytic activities were evaluated by degradation of methylene blue (MB) aqueous solution. The reaction mechanism was investigated by different scavengers as probes for MB degradation. The results indicated that the composite material of pure phase Bi20TiO32 and TiO2 which has higher catalytic activity was obtained under mild conditions. The removal efficiency of 20 mg. L- 1 MB reached 98.4% with 1 g. L- 1 Bi20TiO32/TiO2 heterojunction and 3 h irradiation under irradiation of a 100 W halogen lamp. The removal efficiency of MB can be maintained at 94.1% after 4 cycles. The hydroxyl radicals ((.)oH) and superoxide anion radical (O-.(2-)) played a major role in Bi20TiO32/TiO2 system of photocatalytic oxidation process.
