Health care services provided to patients with allergic rhinitis - an analysis based on routine data of a statutory health insurance

This analysis aims to illustrate the outpatient health care services of patients suffering from allergic rhinitis based on routine data from a nationwide statutory health insurance in Germany. Study population consists of 2 6 million continuously insured of the year 2012. A confirmed diagnosis of allergic rhinitis is found in 7% of insured, whereas 19% have an additional diagnosis of allergic asthma. Children under the age of 12 and patients with asthma show a larger amount of prescriptions of symptom related medication. Specific immunotherapy is applied to 7% of rhinitis patients, 82% of those being subcutaneous injections. Within the scope of available information this analysis gives an overview of outpatient care provided to rhinitis patients. However, only those services covered by statutory health insurance are taken into account.
