Applicability Analysis of Differential Protection for Dispersed Wind Generation in Distribution Network

Wind power generator with high permeability and distributed access to distribution network, the complex magnetic transient characteristics of the wind power generator may cause the maloperation or misstrip of the existing relay protection schemes. This paper focuses on the research of the adaptability of distribution network line protection based on double fed induction wind for the object. Firstly, the frequency offset characteristics of DFIG in distribution network fault are analyzed. Secondly, the influence of frequency, amplitude and phase of DFIG short circuit current on the line protection using the traditional differential principle is further analyzed. Finally, the model of distribution network with DFIG is built in PSCAD/EMTDC, simulation tests are carried out on the differential protection in line internal and external fault. The results show that it will cause the action current and the threshold current of the differential protection in a large range fluctuation with multiple frequency components. At the same time its phase is also in a larger range fluctuation. These will cause the failure of the differential protection.
