Anisotropy of creep behaviour in extruded Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy

摘要

Anisotropic creep behaviour of an extruded Mg-3Al-1Zn (AZ31) alloy was investigated by shear punch creep testing in the temperature range 423-498 K. The stress exponents of 6.2 and 6.5, and activation energies of 110 and 106 kJ mol(-1) were independent of orientation. These values are indicative of a dislocation climb creep mechanism that is not affected by anisotropy. In contrast, creep resistance in specimens with the stress axis parallel to the extrusion direction was lower than that in the normal direction. The observed orientation dependence is ascribed to the variation in the texture of the material during extrusion.
