摘要

Large reactive glass particle was used as coarse aggregate to study the influence of reactive aggregate size effect on ASR induced expansion and mechanical properties changing. Accelerated tests according to the experimental environment of ASTM C1260 were carried out. Expansion of specimens at different age and the elastic modulus, compressive strength, reaction depth, and the porosity of specimens achieving same expansion were measured. The expansion was proposed to be measurement index instead of curing age. It is more suitable to reveal the real size effect of coarse aggregate on ASR induced damage. Besides, as a key parameter in the ASR processes, the reaction degree was proposed to be described by reaction depth, which was determined by the SEM/EDS. The results revealed that the specimen expansion increases as the aggregate size decreases. Comparing to the larger size aggregate, smaller size aggregate have obviously influence on reduction of mechanical properties of concrete. At last, the tested parameters were used to calculate the expansion in a mathematical model, and the results showed a nice correlation between the experimental results and the calculated results.
