摘要

At 750 K, the adsorption of oxygen on the PdIn(111) surface was investigated by means of high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). At 750 K, the oxygen atoms order in a perfect hexagonal (2 root 3 x 2 root 3)R30 degrees super-structure with a lattice constant of 16 Angstrom. The oxygen atoms are adsorbed on Pd sites showing a vibration mode at 340 cm(-1). The oxygen-covered surface has atomically flat terraces without defects or pin-holes in contrast to the clean surface. The oxygen superstructure induces a stabilization of the first atomic layers of the PdIn(111) surface.
