A monoclinic polymorph of hypoxanthine

A monoclinic polymorph of hypoxanthine (systematic name: 1,7-dihydro-6H-purin-6-one), C5H4N4O, is reported. The hydrogen-bonding motifs involve a layered structure of N-H center dot center dot center dot O and N-H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen-bonded molecules. The mean stacking distance between adjacent layers is 3.672 angstrom.
