A new cryogenic gas-filled stopping chamber for SHIPTRAP

摘要

The second generation cryogenic gas-filled stopping chamber for SHIPTRAP (cryocell) is being developed. The gas cell will be operated with helium gas at 25 mbar cooled down to 77 K. A stopping efficiency is estimated to be about 90% for reaction products of the fusion-evaporation reaction Ca-48 on Pb-208. An extraction efficiency of about 40% is considered a realistic estimate for the cryocell. Thus, a total efficiency of about 35% is expected. The cryocell design and its expected performance will be presented in this paper.
