CoC2O4&middot 2H2O nanocrystals with various morphologies such as nanorods and nanosheets or both of them were prepared by adjusting the weight ratio of navolac and ethylene glycol which played as the synthetic media. The as-prepared products were characterized by the simultaneous thermal analysis (TG-DSC), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The results show that CoC2O4&middot 2H2O nanorods were obtained with navolac as synthetic media and CoC2O4&middot 2H2O nanosheets were synthesized with ethylene glycol (EG). In addition, with the increased weight ratio of EG and navolac, the morphology of the prepared CoC2O4&middot 2H2O was altered from nanorod morphology to nanosheet morphology. Based on the different morphologies and experimental results, the possible formation mechanisms of rod-like and sheet-like CoC2O4&middot 2H2O were also proposed to illustrate the growth behaviors of the different morphologic CoC2O4&middot 2H2O nanocrystals.
