AGROECOLOGIC PHYTOSANITARY PRODUCTS FOR THE CONTROL OF LACE BUG (Vatiga manihotae) (HEMIPTERA: TINGIDAE) OF CASSAVA

The present study aimed to evaluate, under laboratory conditions (25 +/- 5 degrees C, 70% humidity and 12h photoperiod), the action of agroecological plant protection products on oviposition and mortality of Vatiga. manihotae (Hemiptera: Tingidae). The application of the products was carried out on the underside of the leaves of cassava with an airbrush device coupled to an air compressor. Leaves were wrapped in anti-aphid cloth bags, allowing oviposition of the insects for 48h, to quantify afterwards the number of eggs. To measure mortality, nymphs and adults of lace bugs were transferred to four cassava leaves and kept in bags. Observations on the number of dead insects were made daily during 10 days. The products Natualho (R), Pironat (R) Plant Clean (R), Pironin (R) and lime sulfur presented deterrent action on oviposition of V. manihotae. Lime sulfur was effective in controlling the nymphs. The alternative insecticide products Pironin (R), lime sulfur, Natualho (R) and Plant Clean (R) caused the highest percentages of adult mortality.
