摘要

This paper synthesizes and appraises the empirical research about metacognition in EFL/ESL (abbreviation for English as a foreign language / English as a second language) listening. Firstly, it discusses the definitions of metacognition and the related major components of metacognition. In the wake of that, this paper explores the research conducted in the field of metacognition and EFL/ESL listening in both the overseas countries and mainland China. Through contrast and comparison, the possible problems existing in these current research and implications for future research and teaching are given at the end of the paper.
