The title complex, {[Cu-2(4,4'-bipyridine)(2)(mu-O2CMe)(2)(O2CMe)(2)]center dot H2O}(n) 1, was synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. It crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 13.4474(5), b = 11.7566(2), c = 19.5380(6) angstrom, beta = 92.930(2)degrees, V = 3084.84(16) angstrom(3), Z = 4, Cu2C28N4O9H30, M-r = 693.64, D-c = 1.494 g/cm(3), F(000) = 1424 and mu(MoKa) = 1.436 mm(-1). With the use of 2062 observed reflections (I > 2 sigma(l)), the structure was refined to R = 0.0769 and wR = 0.2154. In complex 1, the dimeric copper acetate units are linked through 4,4'-bipyridine to yield ID molecular ladders. These ladders are connected via O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds to generate 2D layers, which arc further linked through C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds to give a 3D supramolecular network.
