A novel application of the coherent combining in enhancing the ultra wide band rake receivers with the pulse position modulation and repetition coding

Utilizing the redundant information of code repetition in the ultra wide band (UWB) Rake receivers, we proposed a coherent combining method to reduce the effects of the noise and enhance the strength of the signals. We compared the bit error rate (BER) of RAKE receivers using our method with that obtained by the conventional method only using the hard decision detection. The results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the performance of the UWB receiving system.
