摘要

Granular-activated carbon (GAC) is an excellent microwave (MW) absorbing material to absorb and convert MW energy into thermal energy. The removal of adsorbed methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) on GAC for regenerating the saturated GAC using MW energy was presented in this article. The result shows that the treatment time for achieving 80% desorption efficiency using 200-W MW power output is 4 min for 5 g MFK adsorbed on 5 g GAC and 6 min for 3 g MEK adsorbed on 5 g GAC. The MW treatment recovers the adsorbed MEK from the inner pores of the carbon granules to restore the original adsorption capacity and surface area of the activated carbon. The MW-induced regeneration allows the saturated GAC to be regenerated on site and provides an economic method to remove and destroy solvents emitted from small sources by using the GAC-bed treatment.
