Hydrothermal Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Photoluminescence of a Novel One-Dimensional Cadmium(II) Complex: {[Cd(BDC)(bpimb)(0.5)(H2O)]center dot H2O}(n)

A novel one-dimensional cadmium(II) complex {[C(1(BDC)(bpimb)(0.5)(H2O)]center dot H2O} (1) with phthalic acid (H2BDC) and 1,4-bis((2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene (bpimb) has been synthesized by means of hydrothermal method and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, thermal analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal is of monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c with a=1.591 9(3) nin, b=0.689 23(14) nm, c= 2.229 5(3) nm, beta=126.882(10)degrees, V=1.9566(6) nm(3), D-c=1.727 g.cm(-3), Z=4, F(000)=1020, Goof=1.070, R-1=0.0494, wR(2)=0.101 9. Complex 1 shows a novel one-dimensional (1D) ribbon structure and further extended into a 3D supramolecular structure through O-H ... O and C-H ... O hydrogen bonding interactions. Luminescent studies show that complex 1 exhibits intense blue fluorescent emission. CCDC: 768901.
