摘要

Uranium has vast commercial applications because of its use in the production of nuclear energy and in the manufacture of nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, anthropogenic activities like mining and milling, nuclear weapons and nuclear fuel production have originated the extensive environmental contamination by uranium. This review focuses on the adsorption potential of various natural and synthetic adsorbents for the removal of uranium from synthetic wastewaters. Adsorption of heavy metals ions from aqueous solutions is a relatively new method that also seems to be very promising for the removal and recovery of uranium from wastewater. Recently, few studies exploring high removal efficiency of the agro-based biosorbents for uranium containing wastewater with high removal efficiency are reported. Utilization of agro-wastes biosorbents for uranium removal and recovery has economical and potential research opportunities in future. The articles review the literature from 1997 to 2012.
