摘要

In order to reduce the oxidation time in oil tannage and to standardize the drumming conditions for optimum tannage, we established an oil tanning process accelerated by oxidation with sodium percarbonate. The oxidation of the oil was confirmed by IR spectra, and the effect of the oxidation conditions on peroxide value of the oil were investigated. The physical properties of the chamois leathers obtained were determined. The results show that a higher peroxide value of 248-278mmol/kg could be maintained at 25 degrees C for 6 hours by addition of 4% sodium percarbonate and 0.3% catalyst with 50% water (percentages on the oil weight) during oxidation. Under these conditions, the oil undergoes a large increase in the number of hydroxyl groups and a large decrease in C=C bonds. The chamois leathers obtained had strengths, extensions and water absorption characteristics comparable to those of a conventionally processed leather.
