摘要

A self-started DFBLD-EAM pulsed carrier at 10 GHz is demonstrated to perform the bi-directional down-stream RZ-BPSK and up-stream reused RZ-OOK transmissions at 10-Gbit/s. Such a pulsed RZ carrier source is delivered from the self-pulsating DFBLD-EAM driven by using a fiber true-time-delay incorporated self-feedback optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) in the central office. The pulsewidth and jitter of the self-started RZ-BPSK carrier optimized with the true-time-delay incorporated OEO feedback loop with lowest SSB phase noise are theoretically and experimentally performed. Optimizing the delay SMF length provides the OEO triggered optical RZ-BPSK carrier with the shortened pulsewidth, the reduced timing jitter, and the enhanced pulse on/off extinction ratio of 20 ps, 650 fs, and 10.1 dB, respectively. The bi-directional RZ-BPSK and RZ-OOK transmissions using original and reused RZ carrier require receiving sensitivities of -20 and -17.5 dBm, respectively, to achieve a requested BER of 10(-9). The power penalties after 25-km transmission are 0.5 dB for down-stream BPSK and 2.5 dB for up-stream OOK with reused RZ carrier are observed. This study explores the new application of an OEO self-pulsated DFBLD-EAM RZ carrier in the hybrid BPSK-OOK transmission network and its reusing capability.
